Last month, the Japan earthquake and tsunami occurred on March 11th 2011, the first day of the conference. I caught up with Rob Wu, co-founder of CauseVox , the platform used to support this fundraising effort, to learn more about the process and campaign. In the end, it raised over $120,000 from 1500+ donors.

Following the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and the tsumani in Japan in 2011, the Ushahidi platform was used to organize emergency responses in real-time. In less than an hour after the 2011 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, the Ushahidi platform was used to spotlight areas of refuge.

Ushahidi, an open source project originally deployed in Kenya to report post-election violence has since been downloaded and deployed for many other events and disasters, including Haiti, Chile, and Japan. The internet is an endless stage and platform, and when we are up there speaking, we expect you are all listening.
