Specifically, we analyze the relative social behavior of people on buses versus those on trains, and look for clues as to what design elements contribute to different kinds of participatory behavior. The driver provides live facilitation. Bus drivers are welcomers, info-desks, guides, gates, and protectors all rolled into one.
