In 2007, 92 people gave up their September birthdays to bring water to a hospital in Kenya. In 2008, even more people joined and raised over $1 million for clean water projects in Ethiopia. In doing so, they’ll set up their own page and begin their own grassroots marketing campaign for the drilling rig.

Their story was one of the ones that stood out the most for me from the series, so I was thrilled when a woman named Houria Iderkou, who set up a Causes campaign for KickStart on Facebook, contacted me to see if I'd like to interview Fisher. We started off with equipment, for example, in Kenya, for manufacturing low-cost building materials.

She is donating 100 percent of the royalties from the book to the Global Fund for Women. I went to 15 countries on five continents, and interviewed and photographed 129 women.
