Last week I facilitated a workshop in Detroit hosed by Co-Act , a nonprofit collaboration space in Detroit. Their space is designed for local nonprofits to connect, share ideas and develop solutions together. This includes integrating moving around into small groups or share pairs as well as standing & stretching.

Earlier this month, the Detroit Institute of Arts was "saved" by a voter-approved property tax (called a "millage") in its three surrounding counties. It's like a giant, free, no-holds-barred focus group that represents a true range of arts users and non-users. As one Detroit Free Press commenter wrote: "You are not getting it.

The large difference is that most funders tend to direct a majority of their arts funding to local and regional organizations. Paul, Detroit, Akron, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Macon, Miami. Similar to the list I shared for nonprofits focusing on education , arts and culture tends to be a very popular issue area for American foundations.
