As a long-time advocate for a global copyright exception and the founder of Benetech—which I started twenty-five years ago in order to make technology tools to address the needs of people with print disabilities—I was thrilled to become an active player in global diplomacy and witness the adoption and signing of this landmark Treaty.

I’m measuring this entire effort by how it much it does to change this sorry state of affairs, in both the short and long term. It is narrower than the Treaty, and is not binding as a treaty would be (some call it “soft law” compared to the “hard law” of a treaty). law (this is a wildcard issue right now). . •

An important part of what we do at Salesforce.org is to convene those who can push the needle on improving the state of the world, and Davos was an ideal opportunity for us to engage inspiring speakers on pressing issues such as mental health, climate change, inequality, and global health. She is also CEO of the Salesforce Foundation.

As the operators of Bookshare in the USA, which was made possible through a great exception in our copyright law here, we would love to make all of our books available to people with qualifying disabilities around the world. Don’t create a global Swiss registry of nonprofit organizations qualified to use exceptions.

Although it might seem like a complicated document , we’re really excited about it because we think it will greatly improve global access for people with bona fide print disabilities. This is satisfied by having a law like the Chafee Amendment in the U.S., or similar laws in other countries like India and the EU.
