I signed up for the Challenge today and decided to celebrate Day 1 by donating to the BlogHers Act' "Donate Now to Save Women's Lives" campaign on Global Giving. I donated to a Relief International health clinic in the Zam Zam refugee camp in Darfur that trains indigenous doctors, midwives, and community health workers.

In 2007, I raised money to help sponsor the first Cambodian Bloggers conference and raised a lot of the money via Twitter as Shel Israel noted in his book, Twitterville. At the heart of Fair Trade is the notion of direct trade, kind of like a farmer's market gone global. And so if we helped small farmers and the rural poor get access to land and credit and training and other resources, and get access to markets, they in fact could grow their own way out of poverty as it were.

Because currently, the TransFair fair trade only certifies about eight different products, eight different raw goods--rice, sugar, cocoa, coffee, soccer balls, something like that, tea and a couple other things--and it's not really global. What I do is, I write for several blogs, as she mentioned.
