Thousands of nonprofits haven’t logged into their MySpace profiles in months, or even a year or more. That said, MySpace is not dead. Traffic has definitely sloooowed, but the site still has 57 million monthly visitors in the United States ( as of December 2009 ). I created the Nonprofit Organizations MySpace in 2006.

Yet everyday on Twitter and (especially) Facebook nonprofits are sending out hundreds of thousands of Tweets and Status Updates with completely wrecked avatars. The visual appeal of your social media avatar is very important to the success of building your online brand. and likely many more sites in the future. Of course not!

For the past six years I have spent 50 to 60 hours a week utilizing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Foursquare to promote nonprofits. The brutal but honest — and hopefully well-received — truth is that the majority of nonprofits are making mistakes on social-networking sites that directly undermine their ROI.

In the meantime, nonprofit staff can prepare for the launch of the new brand pages, also known as Google+ Entity Profiles , by creating a Google Account and then setting up your personal Google Profile (which then also becomes your personal Google+ Profile when you get invited to join Google+ or the site comes out of beta). e-Newsletter.

on their Twitter avatars, and then spread them throughout the Twitterverse. You can post pictures to TwitPic from your phone or through the site itself. After you record a message, you are given a URL for the message that you can post on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. TwitPic : TwitPic lets you share photos on Twitter.

Your supporters also want to see what your staff and working space look like – the human beings behind the avatar, if you will. Make new friends (Google+) and keep the old (Myspace). They move with you from one site to the next and maybe in the case of Myspace, back again.
