Co-Creating Exhibits with Teens and Volunteers: The Importance of Criteria

This summer, I worked with the Chabot Space & Science Center on a design institute in which eleven teens from their Galaxy Explorers program designed media pieces for an upcoming Smithsonian exhibition on black holes. There was no initial design, no graphics, and no idea of where the teen' work would fit into an overall structure.

2.0 at Work: Why You Should Use Flickr

You can upload photos to it, tag them, share them, comment on them, and search for them. Where else can you find Pakistani bathroom signage or Mexican biker teens while researching a project? Tagging makes photo search flexible and powerful. On Flickr, they are searchable both by title and by tag. Where do you go?

New Models for Community Partnerships: Museums Hosting Meetups

They left and wrote over 100 positive reviews of the evening, 12 positive reviews of the museum, and shared over 300 photos of their revels on Flickr. event, the Computer History Museum had 15 reviews on Yelp! That's almost a 100% increase in reviews. Don't look at the number of videos, photos, or reviews.

ISO Understanding: Rethinking Art Museum Labels

But I’d been scribbling notes for an art museum label post for awhile, and then yesterday, the NY Times had a review of a new show at MOMA, Comic Abstraction. The review was harsh. Also, the teen selections often featured teenagers interviewing visitors about their reactions to the pieces. I loved that. I’m begging here.
