And, the focus of MEL is generally on evaluating grantee projects or organizations, rather than on the grantmaker and its practices. Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that stewards Wikipedia, regularly asks for feedback from stakeholders and publishes what they share, along with any changes that are made to the programs from that feedback.

Is this one of those flashy third world technology demonstration projects where a prestigious organization and a digerati provide a wad of cash to impose a technology solution that gets a lot of media hoopla, but isn't sustainable? This project encouraged inmates to form singing groups and have temporary release to do performances.

The Wikipedia entry on this topic is extensive, and the most common usage in the marketplace is for the socially beneficial flavor of “social enterprise,” not the Salesforce one-year-old marketing campaign. Unfortunately, there are literally hundreds of nonprofit social enterprises operating in all of these areas.
