I see this work in public maps like Open Green Map. At 19, New Jersey native Maggie Doyne used her life savings from babysitting to start Kopila Valley children’s home in Nepal, which has grown to a home for over 40 children, and a school serving over 200 students. I see this lesson in the work of 350.org.

Microsoft has lent their Local Impact Map to the Aidmatrix disaster relief efforts, and in turn, the Aidmatrix NeedsFeed and Local Impact Map are featured on Microsoft’s ReadyReach Hurricane Sandy Response site as well as in communications from leaders such as Microsoft Corporate Citizenship’s Akhtar Badshah.

The program’s executive director, Bill Michener, drove one of the bulbs 1,500 miles to the Thomas Edison Museum in New Jersey and received national media coverage. Special maps were printed and people made visiting all 51 a part of their summer plans. The project has been a massive success.
