The red t-shirt show your support meme didn't originate online - it started offline in countries from that region showing support. Mean Lux points to an excellent post that summarizes the all the online support in addition to the Facebook activity.

My most recent experiment involved Twitter, fundraising, and an integrated offline component at the Gnomedex Conference in Seattle. The director of the Center has been there since 1977 and is originally from Cambodia. Some strategies for offline/online engagement were discussed. Can you use the number of photos tagged as a metric for something on say, flickr. Working with the team at the Meyer Trust - Marie, Amy, Aaron, and everyone was fantastic.
