I spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of time trying to figure out how to use social networking, bookmarking and news sites to enhance the National Wildlife Federation's online presence. The tools have changed, but the need for knowing your audience, having an end goal, testing theories, and acting on lessons learned remains the same.

Though its still an unproven strategy when results are compared with more tried and true grassroots fundraising methods -- such as email and Direct Mail -- the medium still draws a lot of attention and seems like a free and easy way to attract new supporters. The social bookmarking sites offer this. At least not yet.

With this tool, I can track specific pages on my site that I want to test: Below is a heat map experiment I ran for a week to test the relevancy of my page: As you can see, the majority of people (about 60%) scroll halfway down the page. I’ve bookmarked it and look forward to looking it over in more detail.
