Intel, Portugal agree to deal for 500,000 laptops: "Intel Corp. on Wednesday pledged to provide elementary school students in Portugal with 500,000 computers based on its Classmate PC design, the latest move by the computer chip maker to take the lead in the emerging low-cost laptop market.The computers will be delivered over the course of the 2008-09 school year.

I met a professor from Portugal who had a student who developed EasyVoice , software that makes it possible for someone who cannot speak to use Voice over IP via Skype to talk to people using a voice synthesizer. I just got back from a terrific week in Austria at the International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs conference. This is an academic conference on access technology, full of researchers trying out new things that will help people with disabilities.
