One of those individuals is Paul Ohisa, and he's a refugee from Sudan. He showed so much leadership and promise that we ended up sponsoring him to a university through our FORGE education fund. His dream was to go back to Sudan, and to contribute and help rebuild. Fortunately, we've been around for about six years now.

However, the fellowship does give me much more flexibility: I don't have to justify spending Benetech's funds for something that isn't directly connected to our current projects. For example, I'm planning on going to India and Bangladesh next month for the first time, and to Uganda and Sudan next year.

Is there a giving deadline or specific funding ask associated with the campaign? I have seen reports that show sending a multi-message campaign raises more funds versus sending only 1 email in December. Personally – I believe that your average donor wants to fund your mission and know that they’re gift is making an impact.

The Genocide Intervention Network has a good list of 10 Ways You Can Take Action Today including writing to elected officials, divesting from Sudan, holding an awareness raising event, and creating a video for 24 Hours for Darfur. But why aren't more people doing these things? Why isn't being anti-genocide as "popular" as being green?
