The small conference room in San Jose, California, was dimly lit and buzzing with intensity, while being relatively silent, except for the tapping of keyboards and the occasional chuckle or sigh. Avatars are virtual alter egos, that are our embodiment (not always human, as I noted) in a virtual world.

I reserved my seat.

Stacy Surla invited me to participate remotely at the IA Summit taking place this weekend in Las Vegas on a panel about IA in Second Life and informal poster session to introduce Second Life to IA folks. I had skype with a video camera and Second Life application opened (which kept crashing my computer.)

The live video feed was being streamed from the Netsquared gathering in San Francisco happening at the same time as the virtual gatherng in Second Life. Jeska Linden , Community Manager for Linden Labs, has the mike in her hand, while her avatar is behind the podium in Second Life. So back to last night's events.

Right now there's a group of us trying to do some action learning about how to facilitate virtual collaborative work and learning in Second Life. The first level is the second life literacy skills - how you move around and communicate. I met with the group last week. We debriefed about the three levels of learning.
