My big mistake was that I neglected to make sure the recorder was turned off while transferring the files to the computer. The files were corrupted! It records in WMA format (Windows Media Audio). Then opened in Audacity and exported at the compression/sampling that Brian suggested in his tutorial (or at least I think I did.).
