Oxfam announced yesterday that Starbucks signed an agreement with Ethiopian farmers: "Starbucks and Ethiopia have finalized an agreement that ends their trademark dispute and brings both sides together in partnership to help Ethiopian farmers. The video above is a thank you message from the President of Oxfam and an Ethiopian farmer.

While there has been some high-profile efforts to raise awareness and money, most recently by former football player Steve Gleason and his Team Gleason House , research efforts and awareness have been low compared to the other fatal diseases. It is a debilitating disease with no known cure.

My kids have posed for photos in t-shirts , emptied their piggy banks , helped me make fundraising videos , contributed clothing or other items to drives at school, and have attended lots of fund raising events. Not two minutes had passed after I set up my birthday campaign and added it to my profile, I got pinged from Facebook friends asking how they could install it. As friends make a donation, it automically appears in your profile newsfeed. More on this later, my kids just made a wonderful video to promote this.

In Ethiopia, she did organizational capacity building work for a local network of NGOs. I've also been inspired to experiment with video blog posts and podcasts. My bloglines profile is public so you can see what I'm reading. She notes, "I started in Kenya working with a water users association, living in a thatched hut!"
