It turned out that I was sitting next to Eve Penny Cowan who is the founder of Future Leaders Institute that guides and mentors youth to employ social entrepreneurship to solve the world’s most pressing needs and Dan Jacobs who is the founder of EveryWun is a platform where individuals can leverage business donations to causes.

Britt Bravo wrote a post several months back defining the term: people who are using their blog, podcast or vlog to raise awareness, build community, and/or facilitate readers/listeners/viewers' taking action to make the world a better place. Alex is a great example of a change blogger.

He used social media ( blog , vlog , wiki , flickr , couchsurfing , twitter , myspace , dopplr , and facebook ) to harness the collective knowledge of the globe, and reported weekly on seven topics of freedom. as my path wondered through southeast asia, i found myself on the other-side of the world where the US dollar is the all mighty.

"If you just need bodies at a rally, names on a petition or donations in your coffers, mobilizing through traditional means will work great. You need to start by checking out the content that is already being created by citizen journalists and activists about the issues you care about on blogs, podcasts and online video/vlogs.

I was up too late editing a screencast to do a content analysis yesterday, instead I found a great thread on Nonprofits and Vlogging over at Social Edge facilitated by Patrick O'Heffernan. I've never donated to a cause after watching a video online, I don't think-other than political campaigns, I've ever been asked.
