It is all about the data, but data is playing a huge role in civic engagement strategies and if people or nonprofits lack the skills to use it for civic engagement goals, that poses a problem. One of the themes that came up is the gap in skills of citizens and nonprofits and the use of data.

My first online community builder/facilitator job was with Arts Wire, an online network for artists, that used a unix-based, text-based online discussion software. into gaining web social (networking) skills. I like the role/label and think David is spot on. Is "reporter" the right role? Nonprofit Technologist.

He was also in NYC and live blogging the event as was Danah Boyd - the official MacArthur Foundation live blogger. "As a blogger, one issue is 'who is reading?' But it was pointed out that there is a lot known about the numbers and less is known about how they are using, the role it plays, and what it means to them.
