Certainly, giving from individuals won't be enough to fix the economy and provide the resources that charities need to deliver important services in hard economic times. But donating money to a charity, even a small amount (or in-kind items ) can certainly help with part of the need and raise awareness in others.

Last year, Sarah Bunting, who writes the blog Tomato Nation , a culture and humor blog, offered to shave her head if her blog readers donated to DonorsChoose.org , a site that allows donors to purchase school supplies for needy classrooms. Her readers responded, raising approximately $30,000 in a few days. Bunting has raised $75,000!

Since conversations are getting more distributed and in addition to using the NpTech tag to discover, aggregate, and summarize resources, I'm incorporating nuggets from micro media sources, nptech bloggers, nptech friendfeed room, and networks. possibly related classroom projects??? I was able to raise $2,500 in 90 minutes at Gnomedex. Right before Thanksgiving , the TweetsGiving effort and Avi Kaplan helped Epic Change raise over $10,000 in 48 hours to build a classroom in Tanzania. As Lucy Bernholz notes, this might be one more example of fundraising on Twitter is less marginal and moving to the middle.
