Online fundraising has become a popular method for increasing revenue and acquire new donors. According to Blackbaud 's 2011 Online Giving Report , online earnings dropped by 55 percent; but that was likely due to the increase in donations due to the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. Analyze what you request of your donors.

The year-over-year growth was in large part due to the tremendous amount of online giving towards the Haiti Earthquake. Keep in mind that 92% of giving still comes from offline channels and that 32% of online donors switch to give through offline channels. How much is the average online gift? How do you know all this stuff?

But there are some things that organizations can do to protect themselves and donors. There is no way to completely prevent all types of online fraud, but nonprofits can protect themselves and donors. Don’t use a blank gift amount on your donation forms. This may cause problems with donors in non-US countries.
