I’ve created widgets and had the chance to use them from a participant’s perspective. Not to get too cheesy here, but it really does mean that the money being raised (and illustrated in the widget) is helping a cause that I’m passionate about. Let me tell you, they are fun! I love widgets. A lot of you have probably heard about the recent success of a Toronto blogger who combined a fundraising widget from Chip-In with the networking power of Twitter to raise over $14k in about 2 days. There's so much potential for fundraising, advocacy, and general outreach. .

Some organizations launch post-event websites with message boards and community-building tools that encourage participants to interact with one another. Considering only the online aspects, here is a simplified example calendar for a late August event: November: Debrief last year’s event and design next year’s website.

Heifer International has rolled out a fundraising widget campaign. Here's the pitch: Make this holiday season special by using your blog, MySpace page, or other website to make a difference for a family facing hunger and poverty. Then they will provide the widget code, campaign, and strategy tips. You have to register first.

Now, this is a cool use of a widget! I can customize the widget to give me the information by state, city, or zip code. The 18Seconds.org website, built by Yahoo! During the Summit, you are encouraged to share with the innovative ways you hope to use the 18Seconds.org website. Any organization can easily download the ???badge,???

It seems like there's a new crowdfunding website out there every week, but which one is right for your nonprofit? Not only does Indiegogo offer discounts on fees, you can also get a badge on your campaign that says you're a verified 503(c) nonprofit (which, according to the Indiegogo rep I spoke with, helps with garnering donations).
