Going beyond content delivery, I also use a lot of participatory and hands-on learning techniques to help students gain a deeper understanding. Classroom style with desks puts a barrier between the students and the instruction, especially when people are using laptops or tablets to take notes.

In 2009 , students built a participatory exhibit from scratch. Thirteen students produced three projects that layered participatory activities onto an exhibition of artwork from the permanent collection of the Henry Art Gallery. Written instructions were not enough to compel them to do otherwise.

It launched in October of 2007 with a very simple and understandable idea: to produce a global map of pieces of art made with stones on beaches. It features three parts: very clear instructions on how to participate, a map of all of the contributions to date , and photos of the contributions.
