For the past six years I have spent 50 to 60 hours a week utilizing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Foursquare to promote nonprofits. Using a horizontal logo for your avatar. Unfortunately, many nonprofits upload horizontal logos to serve as their avatars, resulting in the obvious cropping of the images.

The first “Donate Now” button was released in 1999 by a project of the Tides Foundation called Groundspring (acquired by Network for Good in 2005) and for the next two decades, nonprofit professionals have embraced the study of inspiring people to give online to good causes. 1) Implement Donation Page Best Practices.

The number of low-cost or free, web-based resources and tools available to nonprofits today is astounding. That said, there are some resources and tools that I continually refer to and use again and again, and others that I am still experimenting with that may (or may not) become integral to my communications routine.

Your supporters also want to see what your staff and working space look like – the human beings behind the avatar, if you will. They usually have the staff, passion, resources, and training necessary to make a new tool succeed if it has any possibility of succeeding. Make new friends (Google+) and keep the old (Myspace).

The number of low-cost or free, web-based resources and tools available to nonprofits today is astounding. A handy little tool when designing a YouTube channel, Twitter profile, MySpace page, blog, etc. Part-website, part-smartphone app, this tool enables free group texting between small groups of people.

The popular misconception that the tools themselves i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, blogging, etc. It’s not the tools. It’s the human using the tools successfully (or not) that will make or break your nonprofit’s success on the Social Web. You need a good avatar. The era of winging it is over.
