I scan the tagged items every week and do a pattern analysis and summary of these undifferentiated items. Obviously, it ain't no taxonomy and it shouldn't substitute for one. I admit it.

How are they different from taxonomies? Gavin's post does a great job explaining the definitions and the advantages of a taxonomy over a folksonomy. Marnie Webb introduced the nptech tag to help aggregate nonprofit technology content. Peter Campbell leveraged RSS to pull the tagged items into nptech. The tag points to individual resources, but is that knowledge? Deeper conversations about practice take place in blog comments, webinars, online chats and on Facebook.
