I did a post a few weeks ago on youth programs in TechSoup Global's new Local Impact Map and decided I hadn’t covered this resource nearly enough. ATCAC provides training in work skills, social skills, and health education taught by professionals. Our Local Impact Map. It has just 20 UK-based staff.

I especially appreciate Maryam's speaker wrangling skills. I can't begin to express my gratitude to Chris and Ponzi and the whole gnomedex family for making this conference experience incredible for me - it ranks on my best ever list of tech conferences. I've spoken at a lot of them, and the care and attention I got was above and beyond.

It's all a resource that can be converted into an enterprise for a community. For example, I'd seen potters in Peru whose tradition was to make clay water jars for their community. You have talent, you have raw materials, all the skills, but what you don't have is a product that's ready for a different market.

One of our first programs is our culinary school in Port-Au-Prince, which helps train aspiring chefs from Haiti and give them the skills they need to obtain jobs in Haiti’s growing tourism industry. To us that was more important, but thankfully the resources followed the work! We're currently active in 10 different countries.

I had absolutely no publishing experience, much less any technology experience, and I was also very, very shy and I had no resources either, another big barrier. I ended up going into bodywork to have a skill that I could perform with my hands. She can join the community and find resources and network. But it was not enough.
