Traditionally, NGOs in Kenya have depended on outside support from grant makers and wealthy individuals. Finally, M-Changa seeks to build trust from both local and international donors.

Hunger is a global issue that affects everyone, everywhere. A couple of weeks ago, we announced our first cohort on Zero Hunger, focusing on food insecurity in the United States. But as we know, getting to Zero Hunger will take collaboration from all regions, with multiple approaches to address the contributing factors.

My section focused on a case study of storytelling in the field, when I was a Congressional Hunger Fellow in Cambodia and Kenya from 2005-2007. Working for a non profit, I had very few resources, and I didn't speak the local languages well enough to gather the stories alone.

An early trip to Kenya with World Vision to photograph their hunger relief efforts really cemented my conviction in this work. We were able to work with the International Justice Mission to photograph her and share her story of rising above her difficult circumstances. She had an incredible story of surviving sexual violence.
