Have they developed other sites for non-profit orgs? . Do they have a relationship with hosting companies? Who will own the copyrights associated with their work on your web project? Long distance relationships can be hard. For the key people working on your web project, how much experience do they have?

It is the relationships people form with each other that resonate and provide feelings of connection — much more than that weekly e-newsletter. Currently (on my lowly grad student budget), I only give money to one nonprofit org. Relationships with donors are the best part of asking for money on behalf of organizations.

If you used an email append or other some such questionable acquisition method, I would think much more work would have to be done to develop that relationship first. I cringe when I see the tons of mail environmental orgs send every year. It is the integration of direct mail and online digital forms of engagement like email and social networks that charities will create a strong fundraising future for their annual funds, events and relationship building activities.
