On June 4, we opened The Tech Virtual Test Zone , a new 2000 sq ft gallery at The Tech Museum of Innovation featuring exhibits on the theme of art, film, and music that were originally developed in Second Life by a community of creative amateurs. In Second Life, I am not an expert--but many of our virtual exhibit designers are.

Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology speaks about how difficult is to be objective, while Social Source blog described it as a high school popularity contest. as an excellent example of systems thinking that needed in the nonprofit techspace. However, some nonprofits feel that Second Life is a waste of time and resources.

They are hosting a contest to win $10,000K to celebrate their launch. Sixdegrees.org is running a contest with Hanes T-shirts to win $10,000K. NpTech Tools Sounds like Gavin of Gavin's Digital Diner had a great time sipping Burgundy wines in France, but even better wrote a detailed description of his damn DAM system.

Today, an interview with Shelley Bernstein , the Manager of Information Systems at the Brooklyn Museum, and the engine behind that museum’s fabulous forays into Web 2.0. One thing that can make it more manageable is the use of third party systems.

open collections databases like the Powerhouse Museum's tagging system , where visitors can add their own keyword tags to museum artifacts. In these examples, staff are continually producing new content and interacting with the community via comment boards and other uploaded user-generated content. This pretty much requires dedicated staff.

HSUS ran a video contest during the outcry over the Michael Vick story that received 22 submissions, over 43,000 views of the contest intro video (featuring Hulk Hogan) , and garnered 2,000 new list members. On Second Life : Tim and Carie both say stay away. Funny, another negative note on Second Life.
