Two years ago, Cisco Systems engineering manager Roland Holloway nearly reached the point of needing hospice care due to complications from cancer. In late 2014, Holloway was ready to help another local nonprofit.

The project is training 300 NGOs in Jordan , Lebanon , Tunisia , Morocco , and other Arab countries to become networked ngos and use social media for civil society goals. A true public/private partnership, the funding partners include Microsoft and craiglist Charitable Fund. I’d like to share some of these below.

There is always a full menu of networking sessions, affinity group meetings, conference panels, activities, and of course, The Day of Service. I got to work with a colleague and provided on-site training for a local environmental group on how to use excel, word, and powerpoint! There's also a high demand for social media consults.

Over 110 volunteers worked with almost 60 local Atlanta-based nonprofits sharing their wisdom and expertise on a variety of techie topics. In order to pull off this event, we need not only need enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, but strong local partners who serve as our bridge to the local community of nonprofits.
