Last week, I gave a talk about participatory museum practice for a group of university students at UCSC. Teenagers are often the target for participatory endeavors, and they definitely have high interest in creative expression, personalizing museum experiences, and using interactive or technological tools as part of their visit.

On June 4, we opened The Tech Virtual Test Zone , a new 2000 sq ft gallery at The Tech Museum of Innovation featuring exhibits on the theme of art, film, and music that were originally developed in Second Life by a community of creative amateurs. In Second Life, I am not an expert--but many of our virtual exhibit designers are.

the Exploratorium did something really big for the August 1 eclipse and they are all over Second Life (source: Technorati ). The majority of blog traffic mentioning the Exploratorium in the last month has focused on their coverage of the eclipse and a variety of Second Life initiatives.

As you progress through the challenges, you gain more constituents that will help you with tasks, and learn valuable skills that can be used in real life. As awareness and acceptance of these types of games grow, we hope to see the evolution of social impact through game-play become as normal as playing games for fun.

Maybe it's a live music concert, or a museum visit, or a play. Museums and other venues are offering special programs for teens, for hipsters, for people who want a more active or spiritual or participatory experience. For myself personally, this gulf rears its head every time I go to a live music concert. You have a great time.
