My early days in social media were spent immersed in tagging and social bookmarking. Marnie Webb introduced me to the NpTech Tag and a whole nonprofit tech community embraced it. I have anecdotal evidence that a handful of friends following these tweets (all of them nptech. Stop: Hammer-Time! StumbleUpon. pros) actually click through and vote on the stories.
