One piece of advice that aspiring nonprofit professionals should consider is to participate in an internship program. One of the most exciting and memorable opportunities I had, however, was attending a very large professional networking event on behalf of my organization — by myself — during my second week in the internship.

I also facilitated several design labs with nonprofits as part of the research for the Happy Healthy Nonprofit at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management and the National Arts Marketing Project. Facilitation, Curriculum Development and Train the Trainers. I strapped on a Fitbit and started walking 15,000 steps a day.
