On June 4, we opened The Tech Virtual Test Zone , a new 2000 sq ft gallery at The Tech Museum of Innovation featuring exhibits on the theme of art, film, and music that were originally developed in Second Life by a community of creative amateurs. In Second Life, I am not an expert--but many of our virtual exhibit designers are.

Three out of four of these were on Second Life. We created an Island in Second Life to forward this agenda. Stephen Friedman - MTV U We started with activism - pushing and questioning authority. Activism has evolved beyond sit-ins. We announced a contest to create a game to address issue in Sudan.

It may take you only a few minutes to create a blog, but doing so means (hopefully) a commitment to frequent content posts. activities you can initiate without requiring frequent content updates. The most time-consuming part of this is not posting content (how time-consuming can 140 characters get?) run a Twitter feed.

They are hosting a contest to win $10,000K to celebrate their launch. Sixdegrees.org is running a contest with Hanes T-shirts to win $10,000K. Rayt allows users to rate the content of web sites by making a comment and also to rate other people's comments. Technologies to Recruit, Engage, and Activate Youth."

It's been awhile since I've shared the progress of The Tech Virtual , the web and Second Life-based virtual exhibit workshop that The Tech Museum of Innovation opened in December of 2007. In January, I wrote about the challenges and opportunities of using Second Life as a design space. It's lovely. It's mu ltiuser.

84% of people comment, 82% message others, and 39% create content. To me, this confirms as viable the strategy of finding those community leaders who will carry your torch for you, and then messaging them with content to distribute to their friends. On Second Life : Tim and Carie both say stay away.
