Amy Sample Ward, NetSquared. Ushahidi was originally designed as a tool for mapping reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election unrest in 2008. Anyone in or outside of Haiti could use the tool via the web or on a mobile phone to make reports with voice, text or video; the reports were then mapped and sources verified.

One of the reasons I am so excited about the work I am doing with NetSquared is because I think that these new web-based tools, especially podcasts, are an incredible way for nonprofits to get the word out about their causes, especially when they are listened to through headphones. You feel close to them and their cause.
