I'm trying to embrace two ideas here - the idea of open source thinking and wikitation. Allison Fine 's book, Momentum, has a whole chapter on what she calls " Open Source Thinking ," and how it is key to successfully using these new tools. Open source thinking is sharing and remixing.

Navy have been broadly adopting open source software. recently switched all of its desktop computer applications from Microsoft Office to Google Apps and Open Office , two open source (free of charge) solutions that can open, modify and save documents in the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other formats.

It looks pretty amazing – and a great testament to what open source licensing can do for creative work. {
