One that has found remarkable success is California’s Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. The impact was dramatic. This list doesn't include many approaches that I see transforming museum audiences, like political activism, multilingual programming, intergenerational events, or cultural festivals.

Let''s look at it in the narrow context of the relationship between attendance and impact. For some institutions, like the MCA Denver, attendance is seen as a very poor measure of impact.

It is a time where a lot of organizations are going through an intergenerational transfer of leadership, and a lot has been written about what does that mean? The greatest thing that I came away with is that the United States' and the European notions of what African history is all about, are so simplified.

So in addition to just being involved at my own organization, I am really focused on trying to, you know, make sure our sector is continuing to bring in new talent that is ready to be a part of the sector so that we can make an impact. That’s a commitment to an impact into the work versus a commitment to a particular organization.
