Flickr: °Florian From mapping election violence in Kenya to coordinating disaster response efforts to helping people decide where to live , nonprofits have increasingly used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support their work. I've always felt that maps are just plain cool. Now, I'd likely just create a Google Map.

I’m here at NTEN’s 09NTC and am going to live blog Beth Kanter’s session on mapping your social media strategy to metrics. next, with LOLseals campaign, they made it as easy as possible for people to participate, used the Flickr API to allow people to upload from their website instead of going to Flickr, etc.

Flickr Photo by Matthew Field. Just distill the message you want to test down to a Facebook ad, and then run that ad against various groups: married women over 40, students living in Washington and Oregon, Canadian kayakers and so forth. Create a heat-map to show them where they live, or a series of charts to breakdown their values.

My Flickr Photo from a visit to Freegeek in Portland, Oregon. Earlier this month, I was in Portland, Oregon and had an opportunity to visit FreeGeek , a computer recylcing organization. You can find one using the Electronic Take Back Coalition's map. It got me thinking about the computer graveyard that is my home office.

And speaking of images, we want to allow people to add notes like Flickr does. We want all of the above on a map. Several maps! Custom maps, plus Google Maps, and Yahoo too! The idea of utilizing open source and in turn utilizing community was recently put into action in Portland, Oregon. And videos!
