Cisco released the results of a study last week , reporting that growth in Chile's broadband penetration has dropped from 45 percent in 2006 to 10.5 TechSoup Global ’s NGO partner in Chile, CDI Chile , is currently piloting a Cisco donation program to provide small and medium NGOs with networking hardware products.

In some ways, the impact of the recent earthquake in Chile wasn't as immediately obvious as that of the earthquake in Haiti. After their hugely successful text messaging campaign for Haiti , the Red Cross has set up a similar campaign for Chile: simply text "CHILE" to 90999 to make a ten-dollar donation.

Earlier this week , we told you about TechSoup partner CDI Chile 's plan to restore connectivity to Chilean NGOs. Today, the telecentre is in Lota , one of the poorest cities and Chile and one of the communities hit worst by the earthquake. Skype has made an in-kind donation, allowing CDI to let people make free Skype-to-phone calls.

We embed the product donation with a connection to the community and capacity building.&#. Ben Horin noted that TechSoup Global did not have a partner in Haiti, but they did in Chile. Horin also said that other partners in the TechSoup Global network responded to requests for donations and assistance.
