Cisco released the results of a study last week , reporting that growth in Chile's broadband penetration has dropped from 45 percent in 2006 to 10.5 TechSoup Global ’s NGO partner in Chile, CDI Chile , is currently piloting a Cisco donation program to provide small and medium NGOs with networking hardware products.

Over the past two weeks, we've been reporting on CDI Chile's Mobile Telecentre, a project to reconnect individuals and NGOs in Chile after the recent earthquake ( first update , second update ). Each USD 1,000 raised will allow the telecentre to serve another city in Chile.

In some ways, the impact of the recent earthquake in Chile wasn't as immediately obvious as that of the earthquake in Haiti. After their hugely successful text messaging campaign for Haiti , the Red Cross has set up a similar campaign for Chile: simply text "CHILE" to 90999 to make a ten-dollar donation. Earlier this week , we told you about TechSoup partner CDI Chile 's plan to restore connectivity to Chilean NGOs.
