Frequently, the best innovative solutions to community challenges are those that creatively combine ideas from multiple disciplines. The recent award winners of the 2012 Grinnell Prize are a great example. Many amazing people do this kind of work in our communities, and you probably know a few.

The Awesome Foundation is a global community advancing the interest of “awesome in the universe,” mostly through providing $1,000 micro-grants. They award grants for educational innovations that prepare youth to become the socially responsible leaders of the future. Areas served: Worldwide (communities where IGT operates).

The annual awards luncheon is always one of my favorites and this year was a little bittersweet. The Life Time Achievement award went to Rob Stuart, the godfather of the NpTech movement , who sadly passed away in October. After a wonderful video tribute, she said, “Thanks NTEN, you have my back!”

It all started twenty years ago when esteemed members of the Lincoln chapter of the American Marketing Association created a community project in 2001. Nine scholarships for attendees were awarded. The speaker—who came from a nonprofit advertising firm—canceled a few days before the event after an earthquake hit Haiti.
