BB: Your whole book, Loyal to the Sk y, is a memoir, and it's your entire path to becoming an activist and an artist. In terms of my own life, as I write in Loyal to the Sky , I grew up in apartheid South Africa. When we do open, and we let that pain through, things can start to move and shift in a way that is very healthy.

Artemisia Gentileschi, a shero of the ancient times, was an Italian painter and is considered one of the greatest and most progressive artists of her generation. Fund their work! Sheroes in the Arts.

A recent graduate of Rice University, Lum is working on her PhD in statistics at Duke University.

I am an artist and I was getting my Masters of Fine Arts at the time from John F. Kennedy University. The folks in South Africa, where we get our Rooibos and Honeybush, actually have sort of earning rights. Britt: Your training is as a fine artist. So, we joined forces, he with his tea knowledge and myself.

Does anyone in the room identify as an artist, by any chance? I just want to dispel the myth that we are not activists and that we are not artists. I sort of started my journey wanting to be an artist, and my mother told me I was too smart for art. Kennedy [University], which is pretty much a transformative art program.
