I had the opportunity to talk to Wendy Van DeLaCastro, the president of the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. When you’re communicating with a group of people over zoom or on the phone, you can get your message across, but it feels less personal than a normal conversation.

Take, for instance, students in Nebraska making get well cards for those in quarantine, Disneyland employees donating excess food to Second Harvest Food Bank, and even a Charlotte man volunteering to run errands for the elderly. W ith all that good, also comes some not-so-good. Review the email for poor grammar and spelling.

Technology students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. This was a great way for the students to contribute to their community. We thought, Oh, how cool that I can carry my phone around and I can have this conversation. The really cool thing is how Public Art Omaha did it: their public art.

I should know, because I chose to attend there despite living 600 miles away in Nebraska. Wabash is small (901 students last year), all male (one of three such institutions left in the country), a traditional liberal arts school and the best decision I’ve ever made. Indiana’s Wabash College flies under a lot of peoples’ radars.
