A Community Science Workshop is a place for kids to tinker, make, and explore their world through science. In most cases, they''re not places where kids can go by themselves at all. Where it didn''t work, no local support stepped up.

In Support of Idiosyncrasy

While most of my favorites are small (idiosyncrasy is easier to maintain without too many committees), some are quite large--places like the Exploratorium where a singular ethos infuses a massive facility. These institutions are often more connected to their specific, local communities than more generic institutions. It's a Starbucks.
