Social media has become an important tool for me in storytelling and, in particular, helping to finance my work. I saw for myself that history was unfolding in front of me. I call it thorough.

So, you would think that the most pressing skill to build is in revenue generation, like fundraising , government grants, or fee-for-service programs. It may not be as hard as it sounds. The same goes for identifying foundations, companies, or government entities to fund you. Yes, your reputation preceded you! .

It also won the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture a Silver Vega Award! For us, it was no different!

Within the organization, the AARP Public Policy Institute maintains the AARP Livability Index , a key tool in their mission to promote the development of sound policies to address common needs for economic security, health care, and quality of life. We partnered with the Museum to launch their new brand to the world.

It is, in short, the best multimedia history project I've ever seen, and I wish more museums were pursuing projects like it. In 2009, Dan Spock wrote a beautiful essay, In Defense of Nostalgia , arguing that history museums should embrace the emotional power of loss, memory, and personal connection that comes with nostalgia.
