She did several things over the course of the tour to make it participatory, and she did so in a natural, delightful way. But participatory facilitation can be taught. Join Me for A Social Design Experiment on April 5

To kick off the course, we’re doing a simple exercise at the Seattle zoo (but you can do it anywhere). The point of this experiment is to play with design conditions that support both facilitated and unfacilitated engagement with strangers. The experiment requires you to go to a public space and do three things: Talk to a stranger.

Great Conversationalists: Reflections on Being a Dial-a-Stranger

I called in to participate in a radio show in Seattle , then zoomed downtown for meetings, after which I headed home to cook for a dinner party. I still get fidgety listening to the podcast, but now I see it as an artifact of a supremely conducted participatory project rather the sole product of the process. They really cared about me.
