Erickson founded FORGE (Facilitating Opportunities for Refugee Growth and Empowerment) in 2003 when she was a 20 year-old junior studying public policy at Stanford University. He ran into Congo. He was there for about a month, and then war in Congo was breaking out. It had been bombed. He had no idea where his family went.

Increasingly, rape of women is being used as a tool of war, not just in large scale wars as we saw in the Serbian and Bosnian conflict, but as we saw recently in Kenya and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lastly I think by doing what Eleanor Roosevelt called, "The work of human rights that start in small places close to home."
