Many teens love to perform for each other. First, teens often have incredibly tight social spheres. Second, teens today are incredibly aware of "stranger danger." More so than teens in the past, teens today have grown up in a culture of fear around engagement with strangers. They like to do and touch and make.

They launched an annual fundraiser and gift-collecting drive for the children's hospital in their community (in WA). It was a huge success and it's now become an international drive , with toys and books going to children's hospitals all over. Look how cute these chimps are.

So I can tell y’all that stuff, y’all, but I’ll tell you my most important job and how I really, really learned to hone my leadership skills was as solo mama to this teen who, my friends, she has the mack daddy of all summer jobs. First of all, these children have taught themselves. And then there are other children.
