This week, nearly a year after first beginning to work with Room to Read, we’re proud to be taking part in promoting Literacy Day.

The Sharing Foundation's mission is to help meet the physical, emotional, educational and medical needs of orphaned and seriously disadvantaged children in Cambodia. Beth is on the Board of the Foundation, and she and her husband have two children, Harry and Sara, who were adopted as orphans from Cambodia.

Sharing Foundation Khmer Literacy Program. Roger Carr has written a wonderful post about the Sharing Foundation's Khmer Literacy School. I took that photo back in 2004 when I had the opportunity to visit Cambodia and observe all programs for a week. Is that cool - the literacy school is green! Flickr Supporters.

Makphet Restaurant Vientiane, Laos (and other locations) Makphet Restaurant, photo by Backpack Foodie Like DDD, Friends-International started its efforts in Cambodia and then spread its programs to Laos. All of the staff have name badges identifying them either as students or teachers.

s Khmer Literacy School has provided huge opportunity. Channy, who is very small, probably due to early malnutrition, is proud to be going to school as his mother never did (see photo). His teacher, Ying So Ry, says Channy is a very attentive, hard working student, and she sees a bright future for him.
