Did you know that according to the 2005 Kintera/Luth Nonprofit Trend Report : "On average, online givers donate in total (both online and offline) more than 50 percent more than those donors who do not give online." I used the BBS to post questions asked by people in a local face-to-face support group who were not online. I was networking weaving between the offline/online. answers from a chat room or wait a day and get a response to your question posted in an online forum.

They were able to use the platform for organizing offline events, finding and collaborating with volunteer organizers, and more. She re-mapped the data in Google Earth and shared the new map with community members, local politicians, and presented it at the community meeeting to a much different response.

You don't necessarily see women keynote at technology conferences (well accept for women focused technology conferences like blogher ), but Geoff was trying hard ensure a gender balanced program and succeeded. This made think of whether trust is only built from knowing someone offline or not.
